In Need of XC Ski's?

Go on down to Mountain Supply on Colorado for xc ski equipment.  They are selling all of last year's rental equipment for great prices.  I picked up some boots for my daughter for $10.  They have skis and poles for $20 and $30 depending on the size.

Fourth of July is upon us!

Looking for things to do this Friday with the family?

8am - Spark Your Heart Run in the Old Mill. This 5K run/walk is a fundraiser for The Heart Institute of the Cascades. Registration is $30 and due by July 3rd. http://www.yourheart.org/Fund_Raising/Spark_Your_Heart_RunWalk/

8am - Sunrise Lions Pancake Breakfast in Drake Park.

10am -Pet Parade. Bring your leashed pet (no rabbits or cats please) or favorite stuffed animal, and your bike, trike or wagon. We will provide decorations, keepsake buttons and popsicles for the kids. If you are going to walk in the parade, the staging area is on Wall St. in front of the library. Parade Map

10am - Anniversary Celebration at the Deschutes Historical Museum. The museum celebrates its 27th anniversary with free admission and ice cream.

10am - Friends of the Bend Library Summer Book Sale. All kinds of books can be found at these sales - fiction, non-fiction, etc. It is at the Deschutes Library Admin building at 507 NW Wall St.

11am - Freedom Ride.
A celebration of cycling and the good ol' USA. Usually follows the Pet Parade. Kind of critical-mass style ride. Meets at Pioneer Park and concludes with burgers and such. Cops were cracking down on open containers and obeying traffic signals and stop signs in 2007. Visit myspace.com/bikeparade for some vague info.

11am - Old Fashioned Fourth of July Festival in Drake Park. There will be free old-fashioned games and a family fun area. There will also be live music, food booths, over 100 artisan booths, hay rides and of course, the Flying Fish Fling.

3pm - Sound Fourth! The fourth annual concert hosted by First Presbyterian Church features The Cascade Horizon Band, directed by Sue Steiger, and an 85-voice choir, directed by Clyde Thompson, singing an assortment of Americana, Broadway tunes and more; a free barbecue will be held following the concert.

6pm - Bend Elks Game. Enjoy the game and stay to watch the fireworks from the Butte afterwards.

6pm - Barbecue Benefit for the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Jake's Diner and the Vietnam Veterans of America present an all-you-can-eat barbecue and entertainment by the Taelour Project; proceeds to benefit the Vietnam Veterans of America. $12.95 adults, $9.95 seniors and kids 10 and under.

What to do this week...

Summer - Week of July 1 - 6th
It is summer time and fortunately, we are never without something to do in this town. Here is a schedule of events for the week.

Free Movies - Tuesday and Wednesday
Regal Old Mill 16 hosts the free family film festival, movies start at 10:00 am. Seats are first come, first serve. This weeks movies are:
"The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A Veggie-Tales Movie" (G) and "TMNT" (PG)


Story Times - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday at the Bend Public Library

Baby Steps: Birth through 18 mos.
Wednesday 11:00 am, Thursday 11:15 am

Toddlin' Tales: For 18 mos. through 36 mos.
Tuesday & Wednesday 10:15 am

Preschool Parade: For ages 3 to 5 years old
Tuesday 1:30 pm, Friday 10:15 am

They were on hiatus but will begin story time again on Wednesday at 3:00pm. This weeks theme is The Moon.




Gigglybops, located in NW Crossing, has lots happening this week.

Yoga for Moms, Tuesday at 9:00 am. This is a Vinyasa Flow class with Christyn Chappell. Children 2-4 are welcome to join for the first 15 minutes of class and then childcare will be provided in the play area.

Language Institute visits on Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:30 am, and Thursday at 2:15 pm.
The Waldorf School visits on Thursday at 11am.



Kiddoz Play Center off of Reed Market is now offering Craft Days.
They provide the supplies, instruction and clean up! Parental participation is required. Tuesday at 9:30am, it is free with paid admission.
